Works well for: multi-day visits where you need a car in Annapolis itself. Extended stays in West Annapolis or the outer county where walkability is lower.
Falls short when: you land late, need to go directly to City Dock or a waterfront hotel, or are visiting during a high-demand weekend.
By Transit: Light Rail and Bus
MTA light rail runs from BWI’s rail station, a short walk from the terminal, south toward Patapsco or Cromwell/Glen Burnie. From there, the LocalLink 70 bus continues south into Annapolis.
Total time: 1 hour 15 minutes to nearly 2 hours depending on the connection. The bus runs on a set frequency. Missing the connection can add significant waiting time. Service also does not operate on major federal holidays.
Good choice if: you are traveling solo, arriving mid-day with light luggage and no fixed destination deadline. Less practical if: luggage is involved, the flight arrives late at night, or you need to reach the city at a specific time. The transfer at Glen Burnie is straightforward if everything runs on time, but much less appealing after a delayed flight or with several bags.
